My own research:
Chapter 2.1 The great Cotton Tariff of 1816 / 1817, proposed and promulgated to the United States Congress, by Nathan Appleton, Patrick Tracy Jackson and Francis Lowell. These three men were the leading founders of the first fully developed cotton textile mill in our country, in Waltham Massachusetts.
The Tariff was voted into law by Congress, and was put up against cotton imports from India and China. Sequentially, the tariff was lowered on fine fabric from England and France. Nathan was Francis C. Lowell's cousin and Patrick T. Jackson was Francis's brother-in-law. The effect of this tariff, changing the price of a product imported into a country, was to allow and support the making of vast income, wealth and with it the industrialization the new fledgling country, our United States.
Nathan became a leader and a long-lived builder of an industrial giant in North America.
Chapter 2. NATHAN - The Lily of The North Atlantic, on The Coast Of East Northern America.
Chapter 1. As was often thought and even so fought, yet much keener eyes could but, not bought.
Well was deserved by God on our immortal soul and keen our eyes to wed and much later die, as not even a Lawrence, nor a Putnam be. But in time of need or darkest dread, not one can or did given in to the dark and Devil's fate. We shore and even now sure, from the Merrimack River Valley to Springfield and its Pioneer Valley to Eastern Massachusetts.
